Since I was a little girl and was fist captivated by the magic of Enid Blyton’s The Faraway Tree, I have loved words and stories and telling stories.
Not realising I could have a career in creative writing, I followed the next best thing and studied journalism.
My first job involved working at an outdoors magazine. This was followed by a 2-year stint as a travel trade writer. Both posts covered South African family travel ideas.
I think the travel writing bug really bit during this time, as it’s an area I’ve revisited several times over the years despite my career taking me into mainstream media.
This included working for a media and marketing magazine as a marketing journalist and editor, SABC Radio as a current affairs producer and field reporter, Talk Radio 702 as a current affairs producer, and Primedia Broadcasting as a communications co-ordinator for Talk Radio 702 and 94.7 Highveld Stereo.
After the birth of my first child I wanted to spend more time at home. I left radio to pursue a freelance career as a copywriter and editor. 10 years later I’m still doing that, and have had the privilege of working on some of South Africa’s biggest brands.
During this time I maintained my interest in South African family travel writing by freelancing for Country Life magazine. Later I was part of the web content team that relaunched the SA Tourism website.
My desire to tell stories has never left, and slowly over the years I felt a yearning to really live my passion – writing fiction books.
I penned my first novel, Dance with Your Heart, in 2015. Book 1 in the SA Ballet Academy series, it debuted in South Africa in 2016, and was released globally on Amazon in 2017.
The second book, Follow your Heart, has also been written and is currently in production. The still-to-be-named third book in the series is on the cards for 2018.
